Stages are similar to contact lists, but stages have a task and a date associated with them. You may want to set up a contact list group specifically for a staged campaign. For information about setting up contact list groups, see Organising Contact Lists into Groups.

Creating Email Stages

One task that you can assign to a stage is to send an email message.

Before creating an Email Stage, make sure that you have a valid email address to send messages from, and, if you plan to use a template, create that before setting up the stage.

To set up a stage with an email task:

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Contact Lists.
  2. On the Contact Lists page, click + New Stage.

Stage dialog for an email task
  3. In the Stage dialog, type a name for this stage and, if you wish, a brief description.
  4. Specify the group for this stage.
  5. In the Stage Action list, select Email.
  6. If you have a template available, select it from the Email Template list.
  7. If the stage to follow this one is available, assign it from the Next Stage list.
  8. Indicate when, in days, this stage should be executed.
  9. Specify the email address to use when executing this stage.
  10. If you want this stage to appear as a forwarded message, select the Send as Forward check box.
  11. Click Save.

Creating Phone Call Stages

One task that you can assign to a stage is to make a phone call. Typically, people use call scripts when making phone calls. If you wish to use a call script for a stage, create the call script before setting up the stage.

To set up a stage with a phone call task:

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Contact Lists.
  2. On the Contact Lists page, click + New Stage.

    Stage for phone call task
  3. In the Stage dialog, type a name for this stage and, if you wish, a brief description.
  4. Specify the group for this stage.
  5. In the Stage Action list, select Phone Call.
  6. If you have a call script available, select it from the Call Script list.
  7. If the stage to follow this one is available, assign it from the Next Stage list.
  8. Indicate when, in days, this stage should be executed.
  9. Click Save.

Creating Other Stages

You may need to create a stage for another type of task, perhaps sending a marketing brochure or a catalog about your products by mail. If you need to perform a task with a group of contacts that does not involve a phone call or an email message, select Other as the type of task.

To set up a stage with an ‘other’ task:

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Contact Lists.
  2. On the Contact Lists page, click + New Stage.

    Stage for other task
  3. In the Stage dialog, type a relevant name for this stage and in the Description box indicate details about the task.
  4. Specify the group for this stage.
  5. In the Stage Action list, select Other.
  6. If the stage to follow this one is available, assign it from the Next Stage list.
  7. Indicate when, in days, this stage should be executed.
  8. Click Save.

Adjusting Stages

You may need to adjust a stage after you create it.

To adjust an existing stage:

  1. In the left navigation bar, click Contact Lists.
  2. Scroll to the group with the list in it.
  3. On the right side of the row for the list, click the Edit button, Edit button.
